The homestead is a 40 minute drive from the Zanzibar airport along the East Coast on good roads, direction Paje and was built in 2010. The villa pays tribute to local culture and tradition, built around Swahili arches in a peaceful and private garden setting. The serene courtyard encircles the pool making this the perfect place to unwind, gaze up at the tall coconut trees that sway gently in the breeze. This is a tranquil space, away from the crowds, fenced off for privacy and security. At night, the courtyard becomes a romantic dining area with it’s canopy of stars.This part of the coast boasts lagoon like conditions and has been the recipient of many Traveler awards, voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!
The reef about 1km offshore creates magnificent movements of the ocean next right on your doorstep. Of course tides could cause some “technical hitches” in your holidays’ planning, especially if you don’t know much about them… but it can also be a chance to observe something spectacular and new like the traditional seaweed farmers and for that you need to be bright and early, at sunrise! This is a photographer's dream location and children love to explore the shallow pools and learn about the marine life at low tide.
The East Coast offers easy access to the natural best of the island – Jozani Forest (Colobus Monkeys), Turtle Sanctuary, Butterfly centre, Blue Safari (Dhow sailing, sandbank Seafood BBQ/picnic).
Set in a quiet residential area, where mass tourism hasn't quite arrived and access to the house is via a sandy track from the village main road. The advantage of this is that the property is totally private, sheltered from late afternoon winds and is not directly open to the public beach which greatly reduces any potential security risk. The villa is within walking distance to Paje's great kite surf beaches and some lovely local eateries. The villa is a compound of structures featuring downstairs and upstairs living areas.
The downstairs Garden Suites were built with families and children in mind. Each suite sleeps 3-4 guests in King Sized beds and built-in baraza beds are Queen size. Each room has a private en suite bathroom, ceiling fans, reading lamps, cupboards, fans. Windows are netted, have shutters and feature mosaic glass finishes.
The Garden suites have a lovely view of the shaded garden relaxation area, the BBQ, bonfire pit and garden bar. Guests often have dinner in the garden under the stars.
A set of stairs from the pool area lead to the two upstairs bedrooms. These are two Double/Queen rooms with a lovely cool terrace overlooking the garden, great for reading. Each room has a private en suite bathroom, reading lamps, cupboards, fans.
