Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Jazmin was a responsive host, and we were lucky to be able to book with her after our other host cancelled at the last minute. The parking is an open lot and free. There is a guarded gate to enter the property so we felt relatively safe. The apartment was mostly clean, but I had to wash some oily residue off the plates in the kitchen, and there was hair in the bathroom sink. There was a full size dryer in the apartment that worked. The bed and the single chair/bed were comfortable. The a/c units worked and made the place very comfortable at night. The property has a large pool that we didn't use. The place was quiet and located beachside. There were ample towels. I wasn't sure about the safety of the small village around the property. There is a police station located there, and no one really bothered with us, so we felt as safe as two women who are obvious tourists usually feel. The ocean water at the beach was brown and uninviting. We didn't have time to visit the beach anyway, but likely would not have gone into the water even if we could have. We went there to scuba dive from Portobelo, and this was the closest we could get to Portobelo at the last minute. We picked up the key at Mar Y Pizza, and we got a pizza to go. It was pretty good, and Mrs. Maty (? the pizzeria owner) was lovely and helpful. Other than the pizzeria there didn't seem to be many (or any) other food options, so we ate in Portobelo both days after our activities.

Negative: No hot water which was extremely disappointing after a day of hiking followed by a day of scuba diving. The host couldn't get someone to come fix it, so we left a day early and did not receive a refund. No paper towels in the kitchen, and a single roll of TP (which wasn't a big deal since we left early). The road leading to the property goes from paved to dirt, and it's full of pot holes that became difficult to navigate after the rain, but that seemed to be usual for Panama (and certainly not the host's fault).

Summary: Good place to stay for activities in Portobelo. It would've been great if we had hot water.
