The area is ideal for walking and cycling with nearby nature reserves such as the Drents-Friese Wold, Holtingerveld and the Dwingelderveld. The towns of Dwingeloo, Diever and Appelscha are a short distance away, but the slightly more distant towns of Beilen, Assen, Westerbork, Groningen, Zwolle and Giethoorn are also worth a visit! Enjoy the Drents Museum Assen, Wildlands Emmen, Shakespeare theatre Diever or the Prison Museum in Veenhuizen.

Dwingeloo is located in the beautiful Dwingelderveld National Park. Here you can enjoy the nature and tranquillity for which Drenthe is famous. You can also enjoy an active holiday here: there are endless cycling and walking routes through the beautiful woods and heathland in the area. Many activities are organised in the summer months: markets, stargazing evenings and the Midsummer Festival. For a special day out, you can visit Remembrance Centre Camp Westerbork, hire a boat in Giethoorn or stargaze in the Planetron. For a day of swimming, go to the Blue Lake or one of the many (indoor) swimming pools in the area.
