Melbourne is a small Georgian market town in a delightful part of South Derbyshire on the edge of The National Forest. It is about 8 miles south of Derby and 2 miles from the River Trent. It contains a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The village is also home to The church of St Michael with St Mary which is on the site of a much earlier Anglo Saxon building, and is regarded as one of the finest Norman Parish Churches in the country. It is 8 miles north of Swadlincote. There is much to enjoy in the village, including a lovely relaxing walk through rolling South Derbyshire countryside, starting from Melbourne's medieval market place.
